15-Minute Daily Cleaning Routine for Short-Term Rentals
In a short-term rental unit, cleaning is not a weekend job: it is what separates a five-star review from a comment about the dust on the skirting board. And it is done against the clock, between one check-out and the next check-in.
The good news is that a unit kept well day to day rarely needs a deep clean. What works is the same principle used in hotels: split it by zones, keep the materials to hand and never let anything build up.
1. Split by zones, not by tasks
Cleaning "the whole place" is a job with no end. Cleaning the bathroom, then the kitchen, then the bedroom, is a sequence with a beginning and an end. Each zone has its own product and its own cloth — and that is not a detail: it is what stops you carrying bacteria from the toilet to the worktop.
2. One trolley or caddy per unit
The time lost fetching what is missing is longer than the cleaning itself. A caddy with the essentials — all-purpose cleaner, degreaser, glass cleaner, colour-coded cloths, bin bags — saves more minutes than any miracle product.
3. The surfaces guests touch first
Light switches, handles, remote controls, taps and the flush lever. These are the highest-frequency contact points and the ones most noticed when they are neglected. A surface disinfectant deals with them in two minutes.
4. Bathroom: always the same order
Top to bottom and cleanest to dirtiest — mirror, basin, shower tray, toilet. The other way round, you spread what you have just cleaned. Limescale on the shower screen is the clearest sign of a missing routine; treated weekly, it never gets a hold.
5. Kitchen: grease does not wait
Fresh grease comes off with an all-purpose cleaner. Three-day-old grease needs a degreaser and contact time. The difference between two minutes and twenty is not letting the problem go cold.
6. Restock before you leave
Paper, soap, bin bags. A missing restock is the one cleaning failure guests report in writing, because it happens when they are already there.
We supply short-term rentals, rural tourism and the cleaning companies that service these units. If you prefer, we can put the plan and the consumables list together with you.
